Fazi lHadi Muslim yar Met with the New European Union Ambassador in Kabul

Fazel Hadi Muslim Yar Speaker of House of Elders met with Mr. Pierre Mayaudon the newly appointed European Union Ambassador in Kabul. The meeting was also attended by Mr.  Latif Khan Zowandi Chairman of International Affairs Commission of the Elder House, some Senators and Mr. Sayed Hafizullah Hashimi the Secretary General for House of Elders. Among others, strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and knowledge exchange programs, economic and trade cooperation as well as exporting facilities between Afghanistan and European countries, was discussed. Upcoming elections of Afghanistan were also on the top of discussion points.

Mr.Pierre Mayaudon, re- assured the European Union assistance to Afghanistan and said that the European Union Ambassador will be permanently in Afghanistan and will coordinate any regional issues with the European Union officials. Ambassador Mayaudon stated that European Union will technically support Afghanistan’s upcoming elections, and asked H.E. Muslimyar to further discuses other points of interest towards parliamentary affairs and if interested at the European Union Office in Brussels.

H.E. Muslimyar appreciated effective assistance of the European Union to Afghanistan and said that there are investment opportunities in Afghanistan in particular at the area of mining, and hoped that the European Union investors will take this opportunity.

H.E. Muslimyar added that exchange of parliamentary practices through a mutual relationship between Afghanistan Parliament and the European Union Parliament will impact on strengthening peace, stability and democracy in Afghanistan. As well, he said that the House of Elders emphasizing a timely Elections in the country for which he believes that technical support of European Union will have an important role in the process.

At the end of meeting, H.E. Muslimyar proposed to consider opening visa sections at the embassies of European countries as most of Afghan citizens travel to neighboring countries to obtain visa for European countries, as only few countries provide visa service inside Afghanistan. Ambassador Mayaudon promised to raise this issue in any of his meeting with the European Union officials.
